Foods that we ingest into the system can affect your sleep patterns, especially the ones consumed around bedtime. Here’s a list of what not to eat during bedtime.
Caffeine: It stimulates the brain and nervous system and helps stay awake. Avoid soda, coffee, tea or chocolates late in the day.
Alcohol: When the body metabolizes alcohol, it goes through a dehydration phase. This may cause you to wake up for a glass of water or make it an uncomfortable nap.
Sugar: Stimulates the body and causes disruptions in blood sugar levels, which doesn’t aid sleep.
High Fat Foods: Fat takes time to digest. Hitting the bed soon after consuming fat rich food can cause indigestion and acid reflux.

Healthy Pre-Bedtime Snacks:

-1 cup strawberries with 1 cup low fat yogurt
-1 cup low fat cottage cheese and a banana.
-Non-dairy chocolate smoothie: Blend 1 cup almond milk, 1 tbs almond butter, 1 tbsp cacao powder and 1 cup steamed edamame until smooth and enjoy.
These snacks are a good mix of carbohydrates and protein, both of which work well to calm the brain and body.
